Rajsan Electromech is over at Plot No. 30 in the GIDC Estate. It’s a modest spot, really. If you walk past, you might see a few of us moving crates or working on some electrical components. We started small and stayed that way because it's easier to keep track of things. The heat in the estate during the summer gets pretty intense, so the fans are always humming in the background. We don't spend money on fancy signs or advertising. Word usually gets around by itself among the other folks in the industrial area. When something breaks down, we try to see if we can figure out why. It’s a lot of manual work and getting our hands dirty with grease or wiring. There’s always a pile of scrap in the corner that we mean to clear out but never quite get to. We’ve been at this plot for a good stretch of time now. Most of our neighbors know us by name, and we know them. It’s a community of workshops, really. We don't have big meetings or long-term strategies. We just look at what needs to be fixed or built today and get to it. Sometimes the power goes out, and we all just take a break until it comes back. That's just how it goes here. It’s a simple operation, nothing more and nothing less. We keep the doors open and the work moving as best as we can, day in and day out, without making a big deal of it or acting like we are something we aren't.
