Engraver Engineering Works

Our shop is at Plot No. 992-4-2. Being in Gidc Ind. Estate means we are surrounded by all kinds of manufacturing. Engraver Engineering Works is a small place but we keep ourselves busy. I usually open the gates around seven in the morning. The smell of cutting oil and metal is the first thing you notice when you walk in. We have some older machines that still work better than the new stuff if you know how to talk to them. It gets quite hot in the summer, so we have these big fans going all day. They don’t do much but move the warm air around. We deal with various metal parts. Some days we are just cleaning up edges or drilling holes for hours. It’s not glamorous work but it needs to be done right. My father used to say that a good day is one where nothing breaks. We’ve had our share of broken tools, though. You learn to fix them and move on. The street outside is always full of tempos and people moving crates. We know most of the guys working in the nearby plots. Sometimes we borrow a tool or lend a hand if a truck gets stuck. It’s a community of sorts. We just want to finish the work and get home to our families. No big speeches or fancy logos here, just the work on the table. We keep the floor swept as best as we can to stay organized.
