Unique Engineering Works

Unique Engineering Works is situated over at 256/6 in the Gidc Estatemakarpura area. If you know this part of the city, you know it’s mostly just factories and small units like ours. We’ve been operating out of this space for some time, and it has that worn-in feel that comes with years of working with metal. The floor is stained with oil and there’s always a bit of iron shavings near the corners. We do a lot of the heavy lifting ourselves. Most days are spent looking at drawings or standing over a machine making sure the cuts are clean. It’s noisy work, what with the grinding and the clatter of tools hitting the table, but we’re used to it by now. The GIDC estate can get pretty crowded, so there’s always someone coming by to ask a question or deliver materials. We don’t have a big team, just a few of us who know how to handle the equipment. Lunch is usually eaten quickly so we can get back to the job at hand. When the power goes out, which happens sometimes, we just take a break and sit outside the unit. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s honest work and it keeps us busy from Monday to Saturday. We just try to get the parts out on time and make sure they do what they’re supposed to do. Anyway, that is pretty much what life is like here.
