Mahavir Ice Cream Parlour

Running Mahavir Ice Cream Parlour on Sayajigun Gufa Road in Paras Nagar means we deal with a lot of kids. They come in after school or when the sun finally starts to go down. The freezers have a constant hum that you stop noticing after the first week of working here. We spend a lot of time wiping down the glass tops because everyone leans on them to see the tubs inside. It gets crowded in the evenings when families walk over from the nearby houses in Paras Nagar. We don’t have a massive menu, just the usual stuff that people like. Sometimes a freezer breaks down and we’re scrambling to move everything before it melts, which is always a mess. My hands are usually cold from the scoops. We don't have fancy chairs, just a couple of benches outside where people sit and talk. The street is a bit narrow, so it gets jammed with scooters sometimes. We stay open late because that’s when people want something cold. It’s a straightforward business. No one is coming here for a gourmet experience, they just want a scoop in a cup or a cone. We keep the floor swept of those little paper wrappers. It’s a lot of repetitive work, scooping and serving, but it keeps us busy and pays the bills. The neighborhood knows us by now, and that’s basically how we like it.
