J K Scrap Store

Our yard at Gorwa Palanpur Patia is usually full of stuff that most people would call junk. J K Scrap Store has been here for a bit, and honestly, it looks like a bit of a disaster if you aren't used to it. We get old iron pipes, bundles of newspapers that people have saved for months, and plenty of plastic bottles. The scale we use is old but it still works just fine for weighing things out. Some days it’s really hot and the metal gets so warm you can barely touch it without gloves. People pull up with their rickshaws or small trucks, and we spend the afternoon sorting things into different piles. Copper is always the best find, but we don't see it as much as we used to. There’s a cat that hangs around the back near the stacks of old cardboard boxes, mostly because we leave some scraps out for it. It isn't the quietest job with all the clanking and the trucks moving in and out, but it keeps us busy from morning until the sun goes down. Sometimes the neighbors complain about the dust when we're moving things around, so we try to keep it down, but scrap is a dusty business. We just keep our heads down and keep the piles moving so there’s room for the next load that comes in tomorrow morning. It’s hard work but it is okay for us.
