Aum Scrap is tucked away near Palace Road and Shivarkar Road, specifically over at Philips Society D 5. We’ve got a lot of metal and old parts laying around here. It’s a scrap yard, so it’s naturally a bit messy and loud. We spend our days weighing things out and sorting through what people bring us. You’d be surprised at what kind of stuff ends up in a scrap pile. Palace Road is a well-known area, and being near Philips Society means we get a good mix of stuff coming in. We don't wear suits or sit at desks. Most of the time we’re wearing old clothes and handling heavy pieces of iron or copper. It’s hard on the back, but it’s the work we chose. The scales are the most important thing we own, making sure everything is fair for everyone. Sometimes it’s just a pile of old newspapers, other times it’s big pieces of machinery that need to be broken down. It’s a bit of a puzzle sometimes, trying to fit everything into the space we have. The sun beats down on the yard in the summer, which makes the metal hot to touch. We just keep going until the day is done. It’s honest work, even if it’s a bit greasy and dusty. People come and go, and we just keep the business moving one pile at a time.
