Chaturbhuj Engineering Works

Our workshop is located in Village Kayavarohan, which is part of the Dabhoi Tehsil in Vadodara. We are situated right near the railway fatak. You can often hear the trains passing by and the bells ringing at the crossing while we’re working. This is a place where we get our hands dirty. It’s an engineering workshop, so there is always the smell of grease, metal, and welding in the air. We have a lot of old machines and tools scattered around. People from the village and nearby areas bring us things that need fixing, or sometimes they need something specific fabricated out of iron or steel. It’s not a clean or quiet environment. We spend most of the day bent over a workbench or operating a lathe. The floor is usually covered in metal shavings. We don't really follow a strict corporate schedule. We start when the sun comes up and stay until the work is finished. It’s a small operation, just a few of us who know how to handle machines. We’ve been here at the same spot near the tracks for a long time. People know if they have a mechanical problem, they can bring it to Chaturbhuj. We don’t make big promises, we just take a look at the problem and try to get it sorted out so the person can get back to their own work. It is noisy and hot in the summer, but we like the work we do. It keeps us busy and connected.
