Bansari Silk Sarees

You can find us at Bansari Silk Sarees in the Pancharatna Apartment building. We’re right on R C Dutt Road, and the Raneshwar Temple is just a short walk away, so we get a lot of people stopping by after they’ve finished their prayers. Silk is the main thing we handle here. It’s a delicate material, so we have to be careful with how we store it. The shop isn't very big, and we have these wooden cupboards that are always stuffed with different sarees. Sometimes the hinges creak when we open them. It’s just me and a couple of helpers most days. We spend a lot of time showing the different weaves to customers. Silk has a certain way it feels, and you can’t really explain it without touching the fabric yourself. We get a lot of brides coming in with their mothers, and things can get pretty loud and emotional when they’re trying to pick the right color. We don't have any fancy lighting, just regular tube lights that show the colors as they really are. Outside, the traffic on R C Dutt Road is always moving, but inside it’s usually a bit more peaceful. We keep some chairs for the elderly folks who come in because looking through sarees takes a long time. It’s a slow business, but we like the pace and the people we meet every day. We just keep folding and stacking until it is time to go home.
