Our spot is near the Bank of Baroda on C G Road, right in the middle of the Gidc Estate Makarpura. It's number 257/2/2 if you’re looking at the gate numbers. We do a lot of heavy work here, mostly engineering stuff for the bigger companies around the estate. The floor is always dusty, and there is always a radio playing somewhere in the background to keep the guys moving. I spend a lot of my time checking measurements and making sure the metal pieces are cut right. It’s not always perfect the first time, so we have to go back and adjust things until they work. That's just the nature of engineering, I guess. We aren't a big corporation with suits; we wear work shirts that stay stained with grease no matter how much they’re washed. Sometimes the electricity cuts out and we have to wait, which is frustrating, but we manage. My father started working with tools, and I just followed along. It’s a busy area with trucks moving in and out all day long. Finding a parking spot can be a real headache near the shop. We’ve been at this address for years and the neighborhood has changed a lot. We just keep our heads down and focus on the lathes and milling machines. It’s a living, and we’re used to the grime and the hard work. We stay until the job is done right.
