Himachal Public School

Himachal Public School is tucked away in Pragpur, which most people know for its old heritage buildings. Our school isn’t quite as historic as some of those mansions, but it’s been part of the landscape for a good while. Living and working here in Kangra means you get used to the quiet. In the mornings, you can hear the school bell ringing across the village. It’s not a fancy place. The benches have some scratches on them, and the playground isn't perfectly level, but the children don't seem to mind much. They come in from the nearby areas, some walking quite a distance. I usually spend my time fixing things or talking to parents who drop by without an appointment. That’s just how it is here. You can’t really have a strict schedule when everyone knows everyone else. We have a small staff room where we drink way too much tea and talk about the kids. Some of them are real handfuls, but they’re good kids at heart. When winter comes, we all wrap up in heavy shawls because the rooms get quite chilly. There’s no big fancy philosophy behind what we do. We just want the children to learn how to read and write and be decent people. It’s a simple life, and the school is just a part of that daily rhythm in the hills.
