Up here in Lowersunsep Dehra, things move at their own pace. Being in Kangra means we get that fresh mountain air, even if the climb up the road can be a bit much on some mornings. Delhi Convent School has been part of this neighborhood for some time, tucked away in this corner of Himachal. Most days are pretty quiet until the school buses start rolling in. We spend a lot of time looking out at the hills when the kids are in their classes. The building itself is sturdy, which you need around here when the weather turns. It’s not like those schools you see in the big cities with glass walls. We have thick walls and small windows to keep the warmth in. Sometimes the power goes out if there is a heavy rain, and we just light some candles or wait for the sun to come back out. It’s just how life is in the HP hills. The staff mostly comes from the nearby villages, so we all know each other’s families. When the lunch bell rings, you can smell the food from the houses nearby. We don't have a big marketing team or anything like that. Just some teachers and a few of us making sure the gates stay shut and the water tanks are full. It’s a decent place to spend the day, and we like the quiet life we have here in Dehra.
