Umang is located inside the Bhuwana Handicraft Market on NH-8. Being in a market like this means we are surrounded by other shops, but we just focus on our own little corner. The highway is right there, so there’s a constant hum of engines and tires on the road. It’s a practical place, not somewhere you’d go for a fancy afternoon out. We have our items stacked up, sometimes reaching the ceiling, because we try to keep a lot of variety on hand. The floor is concrete and often has bits of packaging or sawdust on it. We don't spend much time worrying about the decor. We’re more concerned with getting the work done and making sure things are ready for whoever stops by. The sun can be quite strong in the afternoon, hitting the front of the shop, so we often pull down the shade and work in the cooler air inside. We don't have a big marketing plan or anything like that. We just open the doors in the morning and see who comes in from the market or off the road. It’s a straightforward way to run a business. We know the other shopkeepers around here, and we often help each other out. It’s a busy environment, but we’ve found our rhythm over the years at this address. We just keep our heads down and keep the shop running as best as we can.
