Hemant Babel Academy Of Commerce is situated in Bapu Bazar at 4-A on the first floor. Being in the heart of the market means there is never a quiet moment. You can hear the vendors downstairs and the motorcycles zooming by all day long. We have a set of stairs that leads up to our rooms where the students sit. It’s an old building, so the ceilings are high and the walls are thick, which helps a bit with the heat in the summer. We have whiteboards and rows of benches that have seen a lot of use over the years. Most of our day is spent talking through numbers and explaining different concepts to the young people who come here. It gets quite crowded in the evenings when the batches overlap. We usually have a big water cooler in the corner because everyone gets thirsty from all the talking. Bapu Bazar is a great place to be because you can find anything you need just by walking out the door. We often get our snacks from the local shops nearby during the short breaks. It’s a simple setup without any bells and whistles. We just focus on the books and making sure everyone understands the lessons. It’s a lot of hard work, but the atmosphere is usually pretty good once everyone settles down into their seats and starts writing. It feels like a small community here.
