Vivekanand College Of B Ed

Vivekanand College is situated out on Mavli Road in Dabok. It is a bit of a drive from the main Udaipur city, so it is quieter out here, except for the occasional plane taking off from the airport nearby. The building is a sturdy concrete structure with a big courtyard in the middle where students hang out between their B.Ed classes. The library is probably the busiest room, filled with stacks of old textbooks and papers. We have a lot of students who want to become teachers, so there is a lot of talk about lesson plans and school management in the hallways. The desks are the old-fashioned kind, made of heavy wood and metal. During the summer, the Udaipur sun can be quite harsh, and the fans in the classrooms just move the warm air around. We have a small canteen that serves basic tea and snacks, which is where most of the gossip happens. The staff room is always cluttered with registers and half-graded assignments. It is not a polished university campus like you see in the movies. It is a practical place where people come to get their degree and work hard. The road outside is often under repair, so there is usually a bit of dust in the air. We have been here on Mavli Road for quite some time now, and we are just a part of the local landscape. Most of us have been working here for years and know every creak in the floorboards.
