Aliya Bricks

Over at 1-7-14 on Tovinkere Road, you can find Aliya Bricks. We are based in Chikkatottalakere. It is a bit of a quiet area, away from the main city rush. The road outside is mostly used by local farmers and some trucks. We spend our days out in the open, working with the clay and the ovens. It’s a very manual process. There is always dirt under our fingernails and on our clothes. That is just how it is when you work with bricks. The landscape around Chikkatottalakere is nice, but we are usually too busy to look at it. We have to keep the fire going and make sure the bricks are baking right. It’s a long process. We started Aliya Bricks because we knew the area well. Most of us live just a short walk or bike ride away. We don’t have any big corporate office. Our office is just a small room with a desk and some chairs where we keep the books. People from the nearby villages usually just drop in to see if we have stock. We talk for a bit, maybe have some water, and then get back to it. The weather really dictates our schedule. If it’s too wet, we can’t do much. But when it’s dry, we are out there from dawn until dusk. It’s a simple life on Tovinkere Road, just making bricks day in and day out.
