Shalom Export

Out here at No. 47 East Street in Idaiyankulam, things move at their own pace. Padmaneri is a decent place to be based, especially for Shalom Export. We’ve got a small setup where we handle the export side of the business. It’s mostly just us keeping track of what’s coming in and what’s heading out to the ports. The street isn't very wide, so when a truck comes to pick up goods, it can be a bit of a squeeze. We’ve learned to be quick with the loading. The office doesn't have air conditioning, just a couple of ceiling fans that have seen better days. We don't mind it much. Most of our day is spent on the phone or writing out lists by hand. There are no corporate meetings or long presentations here. We just talk about what needs to be done and then we do it. Sometimes we have to drive down to the port ourselves if there's a holdup with the paperwork. It’s a lot of back-and-forth travel. The locals know us as the people who are always busy with boxes. We don't have a website with flashy photos. What you see is exactly what you get when you walk into No. 47. It’s a practical way to run a business. We focus on the task at hand and try to stay organized despite the dust and the heat that comes through the open door in the afternoons.
