Pothigai Polytechnic College

Our place, Pothigai Polytechnic College, sits right inside the Sri Saradha Ramakrishna College grounds over in Siruvachur. It’s a quiet part of Tamil Nadu, out here in the 621113 zip code. We spend our days working with students who want to learn technical skills. Most of the guys and girls here are from the local villages nearby. The campus is spread out, so there's a lot of walking between the different departments. We have the usual labs and workshops you’d expect at a polytechnic. Sometimes the equipment acts up or we have to wait a while for parts, but we figure it out eventually. It’s not like those big city colleges with shiny glass buildings. We’re more about getting grease on our hands and learning how things actually work. The heat can get pretty intense in the afternoons, so we usually try to get the heavy workshop stuff done early in the day. Our staff is mostly local folks who have been in the industry for a while before coming here to teach. We don't have a big marketing department or anything like that. We just show up, open the gates, and get to work. It’s a simple life out here in Siruvachur, but we like the pace of it. We just focus on the classes and making sure the students know their trade before they head out to find work.
