Panchayat Union Primary School

This is the primary school for the Panchayat Union located in the Mangalam area of Thathaiyangarpettai. If you are coming through Trichy or the Tiruchirappalli region, you will find us in this little pocket of the district. We only handle the younger kids here since it is a primary school. The building is basic, just like most of the government-run spots in the villages around here. We have a few rooms and a small open area where the kids play during their lunch break. The mid-day meal is a big part of our day, and we have to make sure that is all sorted out correctly for the students. We do not have any of those expensive computers or fancy labs you see in the big cities. It is mostly about teaching the kids to read and write and do their sums. The teachers here come from various parts of Trichy, and some live right here in Mangalam. It is a quiet place for the most part, except when the kids are running around. We deal with whatever comes our way, whether it is a leaky roof during the monsoon or just needing more chalk. We do not put out brochures or advertisements. Everyone in the village knows where we are and what we do. We just keep the doors open and make sure the children have a place to sit and learn their lessons every day.
