Bhama Fashions

Reddiyar Street is where we spend most of our time, out here in T. Murungappatli which is part of the Thuraiyur Taluk. Our place, Bhama Fashions, is at number 2/249. It is a quiet street compared to the big cities, but we stay busy enough with the local work. We have sewing machines and rolls of fabric sitting in the corners of the room. The building is simple, just stone and paint, and we keep the doors open to let the breeze in when it isn't too dusty outside. Most of our day involves measuring out cloth and talking to the people who stop by from the neighborhood. We don't have a big marketing department or anything like that; news usually travels by word of mouth around here. Some days are slow and we just sit and drink tea, and other days we are rushing to finish a project before the sun goes down. Our work tables are scratched up from years of use, but they serve their purpose just fine. We have a small mirror for people to see how things look on them, and that's about as fancy as it gets. It is a practical way to earn a living, and we enjoy being part of the community here. We don't worry too much about the latest trends from the glossy magazines; we just make what people in the village actually want to wear. It can be hard work, but we like being our own bosses and setting our own hours every day.
