Our factory is tucked away at 28, Vth Lane in Meenambakkam. It’s an older part of Chennai-27, and the lanes can be a bit narrow if you’re driving a big truck. Shelton Garments has been operating out of this space for quite a while now. Inside, you’ll mostly hear the sound of sewing machines and people talking over the noise. We make clothes, plain and simple. It’s not a fashion runway; it’s a workplace with rolls of fabric and threads everywhere. Most of us have been working here for years and we know the rhythms of the machines. The lighting is bright so everyone can see what they’re stitching. Sometimes the heat in Tamil Nadu makes it tough, but we have fans going all day. We don’t have a fancy showroom or a big marketing team. We just take the orders, cut the cloth, and sew the pieces together. It’s honest work that keeps us busy from Monday to Saturday. Sometimes we have to stay a bit late to finish a shipment, especially when the deadlines are tight. The neighborhood knows us as the garment place on the fifth lane. We’ve got a small gate and a bit of a yard where we load the boxes. It’s just a group of people making clothes in a quiet corner of Meenambakkam. We don't make a fuss about it, we just get the sewing done and go home.
