Jawger Mavu Mill

If you come down to East Street in Salapatty, you’ll find our mavu mill at number 12/15. We are in the Vellur Post area, which is part of Musiri Taluk. It’s a quiet place for the most part, except for when our machines are running full tilt. We mostly grind flour for the local families in the village. The street is narrow, and you’ll often see people standing around outside with their containers waiting for their turn. Inside, the air is always thick with the smell of ground grains, which I’ve grown to like over the years. My uncle used to run the place, and I took over from him without changing much of how things are done. We don't have any big signs or advertisements; people just know where we are by word of mouth. The floor is always a bit white from the flour dust, and we have an old radio that plays local songs while we work. It’s not a big operation, just a couple of machines and enough space to store the bags. The Musiri weather can be quite humid, so we try to get the heaviest work done early in the morning before the heat really sets in. We are just a local mill doing what we’ve always done for the people on East Street, making sure their flour is ready when they need it for their daily meals.
