Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Sugars Pvt Ltd. is located at 22, Periyamma Palayam in the Veppanthattai area. It is a bit of a drive to get out here, but this is where the land is right for the crops. We are surrounded by fields and small villages. The facility itself is quite large and you can see the tall chimneys from a long way off. Inside, it is usually hot and smells like cooked sugar and earth. We have been operating out of Periyamma Palayam for several years now. Most of the staff live nearby and they walk or ride their bikes to work every morning. We don’t have a lot of fancy decorations in the workplace. It is mostly just steel, concrete, and the heavy machinery used for the crushing. During the harvest, the road outside gets lined with carts and tractors full of cane. It’s a slow process sometimes, and we all have to be patient with the queues. The office is just a simple room with a few chairs and a ceiling fan that works most of the time. We don't spend time on big speeches or marketing campaigns. We just focus on the sugar and making sure the factory runs without breaking down too often. It is a simple, hard-working life out here in Veppanthattai, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
