Bismi Rice

Our place is at 5/510-D in Jahir Chinna Ammaplayam, right at the Main Road Junction. It is a very busy corner with buses and lorries passing by every few seconds. Because we are at the junction, it gets very dusty, and there is always a lot of activity outside our door. We handle rice in bulk, and you can see the stacks of bags piled high if you look inside. The building is a bit old, and the roof leaks a tiny bit when it rains very hard, but we keep the stock covered with plastic sheets. We spend our days loading and unloading, checking the weights, and making sure everything is where it should be. It is not a quiet job by any means. The proximity to the main road means we get a lot of walk-in inquiries from people just passing through the district. We keep a pot of water near the entrance for anyone who is thirsty. The walls are a bit stained from the exhaust of the trucks, but that is part of being in such a central location. We don't have a big team, just a few of us who have been doing this for years. We focus on getting the bags moved and making sure the counts are right at the end of the day before we close up the shutters. It is a simple routine that works well for us.
