Vivekananda Jr. College, Khariwali

Vivekananda Jr. College is located in the small area of Khariwali, which is part of the Bhiwandi taluka in Thane. It is a quiet place away from the main rush of the city. The college is just a regular building where local kids come to do their 11th and 12th standards. We are right there in the 421302 zip code area. The campus is simple, with just a few blocks for classrooms and a small playground. It gets quite dusty during the dry season and a bit muddy when it rains. We don't have any of those modern facilities you see in the city colleges. It is all very basic. The students come from the surrounding villages, and many of them have to travel quite a bit on the bus to get here. The teachers are mostly local people who understand the life here. We don't have a big website or fancy brochures. People know us because we’ve been here for years. The classrooms have old-fashioned benches and large windows for ventilation. There is no air conditioning. During the break, the students sit under the few trees we have or go to the small shops nearby for a snack. It’s a very grounded atmosphere. We don't have any grand slogans. We just try to get the syllabus finished and help the kids pass their exams. It’s a practical place for the local community to get their basic college education without any fuss.
