The Shikshan Mandal

The Shikshan Mandal is located in Goregaon West. We don't have a flashy building or a big sign with lights. It is a very traditional place. Goregaon West has changed a lot over the years with all the new malls and apartments, but we have stayed pretty much the same. We have a few classrooms with wooden desks and benches. They are old and have names scratched into them from years ago. We just keep things straightforward. The kids come in, they sit down, and they do their work. We have a small staff of people who have been teaching here for a long time. They know the families and they know the neighborhood well. There is a playground area that is mostly dirt and some patches of grass. It gets very dusty in the summer and a bit muddy when it rains. The kids don't care, they just want to run around during their break. We have a bell that we ring by hand to mark the start and end of the day. It is a loud, clanging sound that everyone in the immediate area can hear. We don't use much technology here. It is mostly chalkboards and notebooks. It is an old-fashioned way of doing things, but it has worked for us for a long time. People around Goregaon know what to expect when they come to us. It is just a simple school for local kids.
