Doss & Co

Doss & Co is situated at number 180 on the Main Road in the Tirunelveli Bazaar. We are in the Papaiyapuram area, quite close to the big India Cement factory at Sankar Nagar. Being in the bazaar means it’s always loud outside with horns honking and people shouting, but we’ve gotten used to it over the years. Our shop is old-fashioned, with wooden shelves and a heavy counter that’s seen better days. We sell various goods, and the inventory changes depending on what we can get in. It’s a bit of a squeeze inside because we try to stock as much as possible to keep the locals happy. Sometimes the ceiling fan squeaks, and the light flickers a bit, but we don't mind much as long as we can see what we're doing. We’ve been part of this market for a long time, and we know most of the people who walk through the door by their first names. We don’t use any computer systems for our sales; it’s all written down in ledgers with a pen. It might be slower than the big malls, but it works for us and our customers. We just try to provide what the community needs at a fair price. It’s a simple way of doing business that hasn’t changed much since my father’s time. When the cement workers come by after their shifts, the shop gets really crowded and we just have to move faster.
