At Avalon Technologies, we are based out of the Engineering Product Division. We occupy units 5, 6, 7, and 8 inside SDF III at the MEPZ-SEZ in Tambaram. Being in a special economic zone means there is a lot of security and gates to go through just to get to the office. It can be a bit of a hassle in the mornings when everyone is trying to get in at once. Our space is spread across several units, so we are often walking back and forth through the hallways to talk to colleagues. It’s a very industrial feel here, with lots of concrete and grey walls. We have a lot of equipment tucked away in the back units. The air conditioning is usually blasting because the machines get quite warm. Most of us eat in the common canteen area with people from other companies. It’s not the most exciting place to be, but it’s where the work happens. We’ve been here in Tambaram for a good while, and we’ve seen the zone change quite a bit over the years. Some units around us have changed hands, but we’ve stayed put in SDF III. It’s a long day for those of us commuting from the city, but we are used to it by now. We just focus on getting through the tasks for the week and making sure the engineering stuff stays on track. There is always a lot of paperwork to finish.
