Vivaah Sarees

The address says Lalgate Main Road twice on some of our papers, which is funny because sometimes it really feels like we are in two places at once with how busy it gets. This part of Surat is always moving. Inside Vivaah Sarees, we try to keep things organized, but when ten people come in at the same time, the counters disappear under piles of fabric. We have silk, cotton, and all sorts of other blends. We do not really do the big sales talk; we just show the colors and let people decide. Some days the humidity is so thick you can feel it on the cloth, so we have to be very careful how we store things. We have these big wooden cupboards that have been here for years. They hold more than they look like they should. The bells from the small temple nearby ring in the evenings, and that is usually when the last rush of the day happens. We have a tiny back room where we keep the extra stock and where we sit to eat our lunch. It is usually a quick meal because there is always something to do. Folding a saree perfectly takes a lot of practice, and the younger guys are still learning how to do it fast. It is a bit of a maze in here with all the boxes stacked up in the corners. We know exactly where everything is, even if it looks like a mess to someone else. It is a local life, and we are just a small part of this street.
