Our shop, Vikas Sarees, is over on 1st Main in the Wipro Park area of Rustampura. It’s a decent spot, though parking can be a bit of a pain for people sometimes. Inside, we have rows and rows of sarees tucked into cubbies and stacked on the counters. We spend a lot of our time draping them over our arms to show how the fabric hangs. It’s a lot of folding, really. You fold one, someone wants to see another, and before you know it, the whole counter is covered in silk and cotton. Rustampura has a specific feel to it, and we’ve been part of this street for a while. We know the tea seller nearby and the other shopkeepers quite well. It’s a quiet enough place in the mornings, but by the time the sun starts to go down, the street gets much livelier. We don’t use any complicated systems here. We just keep a notebook for our accounts and try to remember what people liked last time they came in. Sometimes the ceiling fan makes a clicking noise, but it still works fine. We’ve got some stools for people to sit on while they look through the colors. It’s a simple business, nothing too fancy, just us and the sarees. We open up early and usually don't head home until quite late in the evening.
