Varmala Saree

If you have ever been down to the New Textile Market on Ring Road, you know how crowded it gets. We are over at I 7/8, right in the middle of all that activity. It is loud and there are always people moving fabric around or loading trucks outside. Our shop isn't very large, but we fit a lot into the space we have. Working with sarees means dealing with a lot of folding and stacking, which feels like it never ends. Some days the heat in the market is pretty bad, so we just keep the fans going and keep at it. People come to this part of Surat for a reason, and we are just one of the many spots along the road. We don't spend much time on decorations or making things look like a showroom. It is more about getting the orders right and making sure we know what is in the back. Sometimes the elevators in the building act up, so we end up taking the stairs more than we would like. It’s just part of being in this old textile area. We’ve known the neighbors for years, and we all just kind of do our own thing. It’s a lot of work, but it keeps us busy from morning until the market closes down for the night. You just get used to the pace of Ring Road after a while. It’s a tough environment but it is where we belong.
