Getting to Millennium Textile Market on the Ring Road is always a bit of a struggle because of the traffic, but once you’re inside, it’s a different world. We are tucked away at No. M-2716-17 on the upper ground floor. It’s a massive place with so many shops that it’s easy to get lost if you don't know your way around. Sulakshmi Sarees is where we spend most of our waking hours. The halls are always filled with people carrying bundles of cloth and the smell of new fabric is everywhere. Our shop is usually piled high with sarees because that’s just the nature of the business here in Surat. We don’t have any fancy displays or a big marketing team. It’s just us, the shelves, and the customers who have been coming to us for years. Some days we are so busy unfolding and folding sarees that we barely have time to sit down for a meal. Other days, we sit on the stools and talk about how the market is doing. It’s a loud, messy, and energetic environment, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. The Ring Road area never really sleeps, and being part of this textile hub means there is always something happening. We just try to keep up with the orders and make sure the stock is where it needs to be. It’s honest work, and we’ve been at it for a long time now.
