You can find Sohag Sarees over at 10/203 in Sayaji Ganj, right here in Surat. This part of the city is always full of life and we’ve been part of it for several years. Our shop is a bit small, but we pack it full of different sarees. They are stacked up high on the wooden shelves that line the walls. Sometimes I worry about the shelves holding all that weight. We don't have a big window display, just a couple of mannequins near the entrance. The floor is covered with a white sheet because that’s how we like to show the fabric to people. It’s a traditional way of doing things and it works for us. You have to take your shoes off at the door to keep the sheet clean. My uncle used to run the place, and I took over after he retired. It’s a family thing. The lighting is a bit yellow, which gives the place a warm feel in the evenings. We get a lot of people coming in for wedding stuff or just something for a festival. I usually have a pot of tea going in the back if it’s a slow morning. It’s not a fancy place, just a simple shop where we know our customers by name. We try to keep the stock moving so there’s always something new to see. We usually close for a bit in the middle of the afternoon.
