Shreya Sarees

Shreya Sarees is located at shop 106 in the J J A/C Market on Ring Road. Being in an air-conditioned market is a real blessing during the Surat summers, I can tell you that. It’s a small shop, but we’ve managed to pack a lot of sarees into the cupboards and onto the display racks. We spend a lot of time folding and refolding silk and cotton. If a customer wants to see twenty different colors, we show them twenty different colors. That’s just how the saree business works. The market gets incredibly crowded on the weekends, so we usually grab a quick lunch at our stools while waiting for the next person to walk in. We’ve been here at this location for a while, and we know most of the other shopkeepers nearby. It’s a friendly enough atmosphere, even if everyone is trying to make a sale. Sometimes the lights in the market flicker, but we have our own backup. We don't use any fancy sales tactics. We just show what we have and let people decide for themselves. My daughter helps out with the displays sometimes, though she thinks I should organize them differently. Most of our day is just talking to people and making sure the stock stays clean. It’s a steady kind of life, and we’re happy to be part of the Ring Road market scene.
