Shree Gunsaiji Sarees

Shree Gunsaiji Sarees is over at 175 Katargam Road. We are part of the Paras Society in Kubernagar, which is in the Katargam area. It’s more of a residential neighborhood than the big markets downtown. This means we know our customers very well. They are mostly people who live nearby. The shop is on the ground floor and we have a little porch where we sit in the evenings. Inside, the floor is covered with white sheets where we sit and show the sarees. It’s the traditional way. We don't have chairs for customers; everyone just sits on the floor. It makes things feel more relaxed. We spend a lot of time folding and refolding the fabrics. If you leave them out, they get wrinkled. My wife helps out a lot with the color choices. We don't really follow the big trends you see on TV. We just stock what we know the local people like to wear. Sometimes the electricity goes out in the afternoon, so we just open the doors wide for light. We have a small temple in the corner where we light incense every morning. The smell stays in the shop all day. It’s a quiet life compared to the Ring Road businesses. We like the pace here. We take our time with everyone who walks in. It’s just how we've always done things for our community.
