We have been here at the Regent Textile Market for quite a few years now. Our shop is B-2 5019 and it is right in the middle of all the chaos on Ring Road. Most mornings start with the sound of shutters going up all along the hallway. It is a bit loud and the air always smells a little like diesel from the trucks outside, but you get used to it. We spend most of our time at Shiva Sarees just unfolding fabrics for people who come in. We don't have a big staff, just a couple of us who know where everything is kept. The shelves are packed pretty tight from floor to ceiling. Sometimes we have to use a ladder to reach the pieces at the very top. We don't really do anything fancy to get people in. Most of our customers are folks who have been buying from the market for years. We just sit on the floor cushions and show the sarees one by one. It is a lot of folding work, especially on the busy days when everyone wants to see ten different colors. We get our tea from the small shop around the corner twice a day. It is a simple routine. We stay until the market starts to close up and the lights go dim. It is not a glamorous life, but it is steady work and we like being right here in the center of the textile trade.
