Our shop, Shiv Flower, sits over in Malad West, specifically near the Hetal Arch area. It is right where SV Road and Ghod Dod Road meet, so it stays pretty noisy with all the cars and rickshaws passing by. We deal with all kinds of flowers every single day. The morning starts very early for us, way before the sun is even up, because that is when the fresh loads arrive from the market. Everything smells like jasmine and roses when we first open the shutters in the morning. It is a family thing for us, really. My brother and I take turns being behind the counter to help people out. We have a lot of local folks coming in for small garlands or just a few stems for their home altars. Some days we have big orders for weddings or local festivals, and those days are always a bit chaotic. The floor usually has water and cut stems all over it by noon. We try to keep it tidy but it is hard when you are busy and customers are waiting. Malad is a crowded place but we have gotten used to the fast pace over the years. We aren’t trying to be the biggest florist in the city or anything like that. We just want to make sure people get what they need for their ceremonies or homes. Sometimes it gets very hot in the shop during the summer months. It is a simple life.
