Sakshi Tassar Saree

Sakshi Tassar Saree is based at the World Trade Center near Udhna Darwaja. We are specifically at room 4025 on the fourth floor. Ring Road is always loud with horns and the noise of people moving around. We have stacks of tassar sarees everywhere in the office. Some are plain, and some have simple prints on them. Usually, the morning starts with a lot of dust because there is always some construction going on nearby. We open the shutters and get to work right away. It’s not a fancy showroom, just a place where we keep our stock and talk to the people who come by to see the fabric. Sometimes the lift doesn't work right, so we end up walking up the stairs which is quite a workout. Tassar silk has a certain smell, earthy and real. We spend a lot of our hours checking the borders and making sure the threads are all in place. The tea stall downstairs is where we get our morning and afternoon breaks. It’s just how it goes here in Surat. You spend your whole day surrounded by different shades of silk and the constant sound of traffic outside. We don't have a big team, just a few of us handling the bundles of cloth. By the time evening comes, the whole place is a bit of a mess with sarees unfolded. Then we fold them all back up for the next day. It’s a repetitive job but it keeps us busy.
