Suvastram

Suvastram is located inside the Gems Silk Mills at Plot No. 81 in the Pandesara GIDC area of Surat. This is a real industrial zone, so it’s all about production and hard work. The roads are usually full of big trucks and the air smells like steam and chemicals from the processing units. We aren't a fancy boutique with a glass window. We are right in the middle of the noise. Our space is filled with the sound of looms and the constant movement of fabric being rolled onto big cardboard tubes. We focus on the raw textiles, making sure the quality is what it needs to be before it goes anywhere else. The heat in the GIDC can be quite intense, especially during the summer months, but we just keep the fans going and get on with it. We deal with suppliers and traders who come in with their clipboards and samples. It’s a lot of back-and-forth negotiations and checking the meterage on the invoices. We don’t have time for anything flashy. We just want to make sure the fabric is right and the deliveries are on time. Most of us have been working in this area for years, so we’re used to the grit and the long hours. It’s just how things are done here in the heart of the textile district, day in and day out, without much fuss.
