Nirmal Children & General Hospital & Research Centre

Our place is right at Civil Char Rasta, near the Kadiwala School. If you look across from the Sub Jail on Ring Road, you’ll see the sign for Nirmal Children & General Hospital & Research Centre. It’s a long name for a place that’s basically a busy hub for families. Since we handle kids and adults, there’s always someone crying or someone laughing in the hallways. The research part sounds big, but mostly we are just busy with the daily patients. The floors are made of that old stone that stays cool even when it's hot outside. We have rows of plastic chairs that have seen better days. During the monsoon, the entrance gets a bit muddy from all the feet coming in, but we try to mop it often. There are posters about vaccinations and healthy eating stuck on the doors. It’s a bit of a maze inside with different wings for different things. Some of the doctors have been here since they were young, and now they’re gray-haired. We don’t have a fancy canteen, just a small corner where you can get some water. It’s a loud, living place that never really seems to sleep. Ring Road is always noisy, so that sound kind of hums in the background all day. We just focus on getting the kids healthy and helping the grown-ups with their aches and pains. It’s been our routine for a long time now and we just keep going.
