We are located on the upper ground floor of the New Textile Market. It's a busy spot in Surat. Most of our day is spent looking at different creations and checking the weave of the textiles. The stairs up to C-541 are always crowded with people carrying heavy loads. We have a small desk and a lot of shelf space. Sometimes the inventory gets a bit messy when we are busy, but we clear it up eventually. We don't use big words or have a grand philosophy. We just sell cloth. The Ring Road outside is always jammed with rickshaws and cars. You can hear the horns all day long. We start early, usually with a quick prayer and some tea. Then it's just dealing with wholesalers and showing them the latest batches. We look at the patterns and decide what's going to sell. It's a bit of a gamble sometimes. We’ve had this shop for a while and the walls could probably use a new coat of paint. But the fabric is what matters. We check for defects and make sure the yardage is correct. It’s honest work, even if it’s tiring. The lights stay on late most nights during the festival season. We are just one shop among many, trying to keep our customers coming back by being fair and staying open as long as there is work to do.
