Mehta Academy

Being in Surat 395001 means we are right in the heart of the older part of the city. It is crowded and loud, but that is what makes it feel alive. Mehta Academy is just a small spot where we sit down with students and go over their lessons. We don't have a massive building or a big sign. It is just a room with some chairs and a table. People know us by word of mouth mostly. You walk through the narrow streets and find us. It is not fancy. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but they are covered in old charts anyway. We start early because the traffic gets bad later on. The 395001 area has a lot of history. Sometimes the power goes out for a few minutes and we just keep talking. It is the way things go here. We don't use much technology, just pens and paper and maybe a chalkboard. My desk is always a mess with papers from different classes. I try to organize it every Saturday but by Monday it is back to the same. It is a busy life. We see a lot of faces every day. Some kids come from nearby, some walk quite a bit. There is a tea stall around the corner where we get our snacks. It is a basic life, really. We just focus on the books and making sure the work is finished before the sun goes down.
