Kasturi Sarees

We are up on the third floor of Kuberji Plaza. It’s right there on Ring Road near the Surat Sector Market. If you’ve ever been to this part of town, you know how crowded it gets with all the saree traders and shoppers. Our space is 306, and it’s usually filled from floor to ceiling with different types of sarees. We don’t really go for the high-end boutique look. It’s more of a traditional trading spot where you can see the stacks of colors and patterns. We spend our time looking at new designs and talking to the people who supply us. It’s a lot of sitting on the floor and unfolding fabric to show the work. My family has been involved in the textile trade for years, so this is just what we do. We don't use big words to describe the clothes. We just look at the thread and the print to see if it’s good. The plaza can be a bit of a maze if you aren't used to it, and the elevators are usually busy, so we end up taking the stairs a lot. It’s a tiring job sometimes, standing all day and moving heavy bundles, but it’s the way the market works. We open up early and stay until the last customer leaves. It’s a simple life based around the cloth we sell. We don't need fancy signs to tell our story.
