Gomti Sarees

Our shop is down on the lower ground floor of Radhey Market. We occupy units L-2 and L-3. Being right on the Ring Road makes it convenient, but the traffic noise never really stops. Inside, it's a bit quieter. We have rows and rows of sarees tucked into cubbies. It’s a lot of fabric to manage. When we open up the bundles to show someone, the whole counter gets covered in silk and cotton. We try to fold them back neatly, but by the end of a busy day, there’s always a pile that needs sorting. The lighting isn't the best down here on the lower level, so we have some extra lamps to show the true colors of the embroidery. We’ve been in Radhey Market for quite some time now. Most of our day is spent talking to weavers or showing different patterns to folks who walk in. People usually hear about us from their mothers or aunts. It's a small team here. We know which shelf holds the heavy wedding pieces and where the simple daily wear is kept. The floor is tiled and a bit cold, so we usually wear slippers. It’s a comfortable place to work, even if we are tucked away in the basement area. The Ring Road is always jammed, so we usually get to work early to beat the worst of it. Radhey Market is a busy place once the shops start opening up. Being on the lower ground floor at L-2 and L-3, we don't get much natural light, but we've got plenty of tube lights so we can see what we're doing. We spend a lot of time just talking. Customers like to hear the stories of where the sarees come from, though we keep it simple. We don't use any big sales pitches. If someone likes a pattern, they like it. We have a small corner where we keep a kettle for making tea. It’s the best way to handle a long afternoon of folding fabric. We've got some old chairs that have seen better days, but they are comfortable enough. It’s just how we run things here.
