Our place is up on the sixth floor of the Padmavati Textile Market. Ring Road is always a mess of trucks and people carrying bundles of cloth. It's hard to find parking most days so we usually just take the rickshaw. Inside the market, it’s a lot of narrow hallways and elevators that take forever. We’ve got shop number 603. It is filled with rolls of fabric and samples. Sometimes there isn't much room to walk around once a new shipment comes in. We spend our days talking to traders and checking the quality of what comes through the door. It’s a lot of back and forth. The lights in the market are bright and it stays busy until late. We’ve been here long enough that we know the neighbors well. Everyone is just trying to move their stock. We don't have a fancy showroom. It's just shelves and counters. You get the smell of new fabric as soon as you step inside. We try to keep things organized but during the wedding season, it gets chaotic. There's always someone looking for a specific color or pattern. We just pull things down from the racks and show what we have. It’s practical work. No big speeches or anything. We just know our cloth. That’s what matters in a place like this. It can be exhausting standing all day, but we are used to it by now. The tea man comes around twice a day and that’s a highlight for everyone in the room.
