If you are looking for us, we are tucked away at Sagar Palace, shop number 10. It’s right behind the Ambawdi Giridhar Society and the RTO on Varachha Road. The traffic on that road can be a real headache, so most of our customers come in by the back lanes. Bhumi Sarees is a small place, mostly filled with boxes and stacks of fabric. We don't have the big bright lights of the malls. It’s just me and my wife usually. We spend our mornings opening up new bundles of sarees and trying to keep everything tidy. By the afternoon, the shop is usually a bit of a mess because ladies have been through the piles looking for just the right color. We don't mind. We have tea together and talk about the neighborhood. We carry all types of sarees, from the simple cotton ones for staying at home to the heavier ones for weddings. We try to keep the prices where regular families can afford them. Sometimes the fans don't work as well as they should, but nobody seems to mind the heat too much when they find a nice pattern. We don't do fancy advertising. Most of our business comes from people telling their sisters or friends about a good deal they got here. It’s a simple life. We close up around eight and head home ourselves. It’s just a local shop for local people.
