I set up Ambaji Colorworks here at Amroli on LBS Marg a few years back. We are in building number 89, which is easy to spot if you are looking for the big numbers on the side. The area is usually dusty because of the trucks going by on the main road. I spend a lot of my time surrounded by tins of color and mixing sticks. It is a small space but it works for what we need to do. Every morning I open up the shutters and sweep the front. Sometimes I wonder if I should have picked a quieter street but the business is here. People from the neighborhood stop in to ask about different shades. I don't really use a computer for much, just a notebook where I write down what we have in stock. My hands are usually stained with some kind of pigment by the end of the day. It doesn't wash off very easily. The building is older so the walls have a lot of character, as they say. We have a small fan that rattles in the corner to keep the air moving. In the summer it gets really hot inside but we just drink plenty of water. I like being in Amroli because people are friendly and they know my face by now. We don't do any big advertisements or anything like that. Word of mouth is how we keep going month after month.
