About Sail-Rourkela Steel Plant – Metals & Minerals in Sundergarh
This part of the plant is Sinter Plant-1, and it’s definitely not a quiet place to work. We are right in the thick of the production at the Rourkela Steel Plant. Most of our time is spent on the floor where the machines are running constantly. It’s loud and dusty, and you can always smell the iron and the heat. We wear our safety boots and helmets all day, and by the end of it, everything is covered in a layer of grime. It’s hard work, but it’s what keeps the whole place functioning. We aren't sitting at desks much; we’re usually checking the equipment or moving materials around. There’s a certain rhythm to the plant that you get used to after a while. When a machine stops, everyone jumps to get it moving again because we can’t afford to have things sitting idle. We eat our lunch in a small break area that’s a bit away from the main noise. It’s a lot of manual labor and making sure the process stays on track. The heat from the furnaces is always there, even in the winter months. We’ve all worked together for a long time, so we know how to handle the rough days. It’s not a glamorous job, but it feels good to see the raw materials turning into something useful. We just keep our heads down and get through the shift one hour at a time.
