Our place is over in Sector 7, specifically in one of the quarters here in Rourkela. It’s a bit of an unusual spot for a business office if you are used to big city skyscrapers, but for us, it works out just fine. Rourkela is a town built on steel and metal, so being right here in the heart of things makes sense. The office is basically a converted residential space. It feels more like a home than a workplace sometimes, which has its ups and downs. We’ve got the usual setup—desks, a few old computers, and plenty of ledgers to keep track of. It gets pretty loud outside during shift changes at the plants nearby. We spend our hours talking to suppliers and trying to figure out transport routes for the metal. There is usually a pot of tea going somewhere in the back. It’s not a place where we wear suits or anything like that. Most of us are just local people who have been around the industry for years. We know how the local roads are and which drivers are reliable. It is a lot of phone calls and checking and re-checking figures. Sometimes the rain in Orissa makes things difficult, but we just keep at it. It’s a straightforward way to earn a living, focused on the day-to-day grind of the metal business in this part of the country.
