Srs Bricks

Out here in Village Balanda, life moves at a different pace, and Srs Bricks is a big part of my daily routine. I spend most of my time walking around the site near Kalunga, checking on the kilns and seeing how the laborers are doing. Sundargarh has its challenges, especially when the monsoon hits and the ground gets all muddy, making it tough for the trucks to get in and out. We've had this place for a while, and it’s mostly just us and a few guys from the nearby houses working together. There’s no big corporate structure here, just me and my cousin keeping track of how many bricks we’ve fired this week. Usually, the morning starts with tea and a look at what needs to be loaded first. Sometimes we run short on wood or coal, and I have to go out and sort that out myself. It is a lot of physical labor, and my hands are always rough from handling the raw materials. People from the post office or the neighboring villages know us well because we’ve been at this spot for years. We aren't trying to change the world, just making sure the local builders have what they need for their projects. It gets quiet in the evenings after the last tractor leaves, and that is usually when I finally sit down to look at the books and prepare for the next day of firing.
