Shahan Shah E Wazwan

We’ve been set up here near the Awqaf Complex for a good while now. Being so close to Kashmir University means we see a lot of different faces every day, mostly students and teachers looking for a proper meal between their classes. Srinagar is a busy place, especially around Hazratbal, so there’s always something going on outside our door. We mostly focus on the traditional wazwan dishes that people expect when they come around this part of town. It isn't a fancy setup or anything like that, just a regular place where the food is the main thing people care about. Most days start pretty early because getting the meat ready for those big dishes takes time. You can’t really rush that kind of cooking. Sometimes the shop gets a bit cramped when a big group comes in at once, but that is just how it goes in this neighborhood. We try to keep things simple and just make sure the pots are full. People know where to find us if they are walking through the main university area. It’s a bit of a landmark for some of the regulars who have been eating here since they were young. We don’t really do much advertising or anything, word just gets around from one person to another. If you’re ever near the complex, you’ll likely see the steam coming from the kitchen. It’s just us doing what we do every day without making too much of a fuss about it.
